A little about the work we do.
The phone rings in the middle of the night; a member of our community has been arrested. Another teenage overdose. Tragedy strikes. A family is torn apart by abuse. For most of us, these are just nightmares we hope and pray to never experience -- but for Amudim this is our daily reality.
When someone is in crisis, not knowing what to do or where to turn can be as painful and stressful as the crisis itself. Our mission is to not only provide the assistance needed, but to provide reassurance and support that helps alleviate the pain.
Amudim has helped place hundreds of individuals suffering from substance abuse in appropriate facilities and programs around the country.
Amudim has helped many who suffer from mental illness stabilize their lives.
Amudim has helped countless of victims of abuse heal, recover, and move on to lead healthy and productive lives.
Here is one story that illustrates how crucial Amudim's services are to the community. We were receiving desperate calls regarding a 16 year old religious girl named D. She was living in a shelter in NYC, was repeatedly sexually abused, and had turned to drugs.
The conditions of the shelter were terrible, but her family did not want her and she had nowhere else to go.
Amudim met with her parents, social workers, lawyers and the family court judge. With a tremendous amount of effort, including a fierce legal battle, Amudim was able to get her into a Jewish therapeutic home in California.
For the first time in her life, D is now in a wholesome loving environment. D is now drug-free and away from her dangerous boyfriends. She is in school and in a safe Jewish environment where she is growing and healing.
Without Amudim, D would likely be dead.
Amudim is at the forefront of fighting the epidemics of addiction and abuse that are plaguing our community. Sadly, we have all heard stories of those who have died, been left on the street, and are suffering so much. Many of us even know people who have been personally affected by these trials.
We are asking you to be there for those who cannot be there for themselves. For 24 hours we ask that you show your support by donating, and by helping us spread the word, so that others may be involved in this most worthy cause. We cannot do this alone and need your help, support and commitment.
