Yeshiva Ohr Yisrael

The Mayer Weiss Fund

What is there to say? This still feels so raw and unbelievable. Each of us remember Mayer in our own way and we were each lucky to know him for however long we did.

Mayer Weiss was married in December 2016. On Sunday, June 25th Mayer passed away unexpectedly.

Everyone that knew Mayer knew of his passion for weddings. Whether it was being involved in shidduchim or helping a friend out who was in a פרשה, or even collecting for a limo which often ended up with him footing the bill. Mayer loved everything involved in weddings.

The idea here is to create the Mayer Weiss Fund. The purpose of the foundation is to collect money to provide to Chossons and Kallahs that cannot afford to make a wedding on their own.  Mayer was able to begin the process of building a Bayit Neeman and we know that he would have liked to afford others the opportunity to build their own.  If we raise $200,000 we can provide a true chessed to Jewish couples so they can celebrate their biggest simcha with dignity and joy.

We have partnered with Mayer’s Rosh Yeshivah Rav Avrahm Zucker, the family’s Rabbi Ha Rav Noach Isaac Oelbaum, and Mayer’s uncle Nochum Sherman. This partnership will ensure that the money raised is handled and appropriated carefully.

We can’t imagine a better way to honor his legacy. We believe this is an initiative he would be proud of.
