In Uganda, only 1 in 5 girls gets the chance to go to high school. Many never learn to read or write. Instead of going to class, they often spend hours every day doing backbreaking housework or are forced into early marriage.

Since the pandemic started, many families in Uganda can no longer afford to send their girls to school. To help out at home, some of the most promising female students have dropped out to take low-paid jobs. Last year, School for Life launched a Girls’ Fund to make sure every girl in Uganda has a chance to go to school and fulfil their potential. Already, the Fund has helped hundreds of girls get an education and changed the course of their futures.

For the next 24 hours, your donations will be TRIPLED by matching funds. So you’ll help three times as many girls go to school, continue their education and create the futures they dream of.

How you can help a girl achieve her dreams

Donate $30 to become $90 and you’ll give a girl three meals a day for three months. You’ll make sure she can focus on her studies, instead of working in the fields to help her family put food on the table.
Donate $60 to become $180 and you’ll provide three reusable menstrual hygiene kits for girls, so they won’t have to miss school because they have their period.
Donate $100 to become $300 and you’ll pay for textbooks, uniforms and all the learning essentials a student will need.
Donate $180 to become $540 and you help teach nine girls valuable skills like coding, entrepreneurship and setting up micro-businesses so they can take control of their lives and their futures.
Donate $252 to become $746 and you’ll send education teams out to villages to speak with local families and encourage parents to send their girls back to school after COVID-19.
Donate $508 to become $1524 and you’ll fund five monthly mentoring and counselling programs, to help girls reach their full potential.
Donate $1522 to become $4566 and you’ll change a girl’s life. You’ll provide tuition and boarding facilities for a full year, so she can learn in an environment where she’s safe and supported.

Rose lives in Katuuso village, residing in her late grandmother’s home with her four siblings. Sadly, Rose and her siblings are without their parents as their father died a few years ago and their mother abandoned them to the care of their grandmother, who passed away just last year.

Despite the difficulties Rose has endured in her young life, she has managed to remain focused on her schooling and achieved the highest Division 1 grades in her Primary Leaving Exams, making her the top student of our Primary 7 cohort.

Rose dreams of becoming a doctor just like her older brother, Steven. Having experienced the loss of two prominent family members due to illness and witnessing first-hand the devastating consequences of the lack of proper medical care, drives Rose’s ambition to complete her education.

When asked what she would do with one wish, Rose told us she wishes to build a beautiful house where she and her siblings can live. And when asked who inspires her, Rose told us; “Teacher Janepher. She is a good person with a good heart”.

Thanks to School for Life's Girls Fund, Rose has been participating in skills training and mentoring workshops while she waits for schools to re-open. Will you help make sure girls like Rose can return to school and achieve their dreams?
